General Neutralising Solution is a general-purpose broth for the neutralisation of antiseptics, disinfectants and preservatives in samples and products to assist with recovery of any sub-lethally injured microorganisms that may remain viable.

Preservatives in products such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, may not kill contaminating microorganisms but result in sub-lethal injury. These organisms will not multiply in such conditions but may revive when concentrations of preservative are decreased by dilution or application of the product. In these circumstances growth of microorganisms and infection may occur.
