Sustainability

Our goal is to deliver high‑quality, safe culture media products and reagents while contributing positively to society and safeguarding the environment for future generations.

Sustainability

We prioritise responsible sourcing, energy-efficient operations, and rigorous waste‑reduction practices across our facilities. Beyond compliance with all relevant environmental and social regulations, we actively invest in initiatives that reduce our ecological footprint, promote employee wellbeing, and encourage collaboration with local partners.

Environment & Social Responsibility

Sustainability is built into how we manufacture, package and work with our communities.

It’s a core part of our business and central to our commitment to achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2037. E&O is reducing emissions across all operations through practical, measurable action.

Biodiversity & Offsetting

More than 13,000 trees are being established across E&O-owned woodland and wetland areas, enhancing biodiversity and providing an estimated 300 tonnes of CO2 offset annually as they mature.

Waste & Resource Efficiency

Across both manufacturing sites, 96% of operational waste is recycled, supported by ongoing work to reduce consumption and recover materials throughout production.

Packaging & Supply Efficiency

Over half of UK deliveries now use E&O’s returnable green-basket system, reducing cardboard use by 47 tonnes each year — equivalent to a 25t CO2e reduction across the UK supply network.

Poured-plate products are packaged in compostable film, and laser marking on bottles and dishes is eliminating the need for chemical inks.

Together, these measures cut waste across the supply chain and reduce the footprint of every delivery.

Energy and Emissions

Solar installations at our Westfield site have reduced electricity use by 15%, cutting more than 50 tonnes of CO2 each year, with additional renewable-energy systems in development.

Hot-water recycling saves over 1.4 million litres annually, and flexible working patterns have lowered commuting-related emissions by more than 10%.
